Nanny is a generalized character of a self-sacrificing Russian woman who can smother herself if her breath bothers the lives of her children. About how a person (not only Tatiana) wanted neither bad nor good, and the State, as if performing a slogan: who is not with us is against us, dragged this person through prisons, wars, hunger and exile. Someone broke down (Emma – the boys' mother), and someone, on the contrary, could choose the only right way.
